After an unprecedented year that saw UK GDP shrink by 9.9%, the largest decline since 1709, one sector that has fared well and survived the wrath of the pandemic is the residential sector. Savills reported 7.3% total growth for 2020, the highest in six years and despite the latest lockdown, and forecasts a strong 2021 as buyers rush to beat the stamp duty deadline. However, with the risk of further unemployment tensions when the furlough scheme is withdrawn and the threat of future inflation, will activity in this market remain as resilient?

In this episode of the Real Estate Club Podcast, Mark Andrew, a professor at the Business School is joined by Richard Valentine-Selsey, Associate Director of Residential Research from Savills and Mahdi Mokrane, Head of Investment Strategy and Research from PATRIZIA (a leader in residential investments across Europe with more than EUR 12bn in residential assets under management) to explore the implications of the Covid-19 pandemic as well as trends and future outlooks for the UK and European residential markets.
